Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)

Umkirch, December 14th, 2021

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an independent medical relief organisation working internationally. MSF was founded in France in 1971. In the following years and decades, convinced supporters founded their own associations of the organisation worldwide. The German section was founded in 1993.

MSF provides medical and humanitarian aid to people whose lives are endangered by conflicts, epidemics or natural disasters, irrespective of their ethnic origin, gender, political and religious beliefs. The extent of the need alone is decisive for the missions. MSF helps particularly vulnerable people in war zones, on the Mediterranean Sea from distress at sea, on the run or in camps for displaced persons when national health systems are overburdened.

MSF stands by people in more than 70 countries worldwide.

"We are not sure that talking saves lives. But we know that silence can kill." (from the acceptance speech on the occasion of the award of the Nobel Peace Prize)
